While viewing the exhibition Suzanne Valadon: Model, Painter, Rebel this past fall at the Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia, I had a strong and distinct flashback that returned me to Montmartre in 2018. I remembered standing in Valadon's reconstructed studio at the Musée de Montmartre at 12, rue Cortot, unmasked and unencumbered by the stresses of our current era.
